Art Trips, shows & clubs
The Goshen High School art room is alive well after the last bell rings for the day. We travel to art museums, club competitions, outdoor painting sessions, college visits and our grand adventure ‘THE ART ROAD TRIP’!
The art road trip (season 3)
This is our third year embarking on this epic trip with 60 students!! 2023 we went to Boston, 2024 we hauled all the way up to Portland, Maine and this year… Philly! We hit up art museums, paint outdoors, explore far away towns, ride boats, go on ghost tours, swim in hotel pools and basically conquer the art scene everywhere on our route!
Metropolitan Museum of Art Field Trip
Each year Ms. Pahucki and I take a group of students to the MET in NYC where the students can explore everything from contemporary artworks to Egyptian mummies to ancient ceramic jewelry to Vincent VanGogh. I don’t think the students know what to expect and come away from this trip in awe of the vast collection and expansive range of what is considered ART.
Olympics of the Visual Arts
I have co-coached for three years the NYS Olympics of the Visual Arts GHS teams in multiple categories. this is an afterschool club that meets once a week for 3 hours for about 4 months to work on art project challenges. We travel overnight to Saratoga, NY and bring our extragagent artworks with us on the bus to compete against the rest of NY state! Last year my Illustration group got a 3rd place win and my Sculpture group received first place!!
I created this permanent mural in Scotchtown Elementary in the lobby displaying the school’s ‘Choose Love’ Philosophy 12’x9’
Annual GHS Festival of the arts
Every year we hang a HUGE ART SHOW in the gym and display all of our art students’ work from the year. The music department has jazz ensembles and mariachi bands to add to the festive mood! There is beginner studio art, ceramics, sculpture, advanced seniors curating their own painting and drawing sections and so much creativity just oozing from every pore of the gym.
New Paltz College Portfolio Review
Fall 2025 we took our juniors and seniors to a Portfolio Review where the best art college convene and give feedback on students’ portfolio of artworks they are gathering for college. It was super informative to eavesdrop on the review conversations, and the students could get a feel for a school’s unbiased perspective on their work.
Plein air painting at Minnewaska
I have co-hosted a fieldtrip for two years and counting with Ms. Pahucki to the cliffs of Lake Minnewaska where we set up on blankets in the early morning and sketch out a plan for a painting of the breathtaking view. Ms. P gives a demo on using water-based oils and off the students go to create their masterpieces. I usually watercolor my landscape painting, this medium is more up my alley. The students enjoy painting in a rugged environment and the results are spectacular.
Students vist Pratt in NYC
We took a group of interested students to see Pratt University in Brooklyn and toured the ins and outs of the art department. The neighborhood is a creative entity in itself (I lived here for 12 years!) and the facilities were so inspiring such as the printmaking room, animation and character design labs along with the illustration and painting studios. I feel like student that couldn’t picture themselves in ‘art school’ made a new connection with something that could be a life changing choice.
